Statesville

Walter Gene Hall, 86, passed away on October 10, 2026, at Gordon Hospice House in Iredell County. He was born on October 4, 1940, in Houston County, Alabama.

Mr. Hall was drafted during the Vietnam War and proudly served his country. In his working life, he was the owner of Winecoff Memorials. He was also a member of East Side Baptist Church in Statesville, a church community that was part of his life and faith.

Walter enjoyed working with his hands and took particular pleasure in doing stonework. He also enjoyed splitting wood for firewood and was still doing that this past winter, a reflection of his steady spirit and enduring work ethic.

Above all, Walter will be remembered by those who knew and loved him most. He shared 64 years of marriage with his wife, Barbara Hall, and together they built a life centered on family. He is also survived by his daughter, Rochelle Hall, and his son, Robert Hall. He leaves behind his sisters, Patricia Hall Williams (Ed), Scarlett Hall Funderburke, and Julia “Julie” Hall Johnson (Mike Knudstrup). His memory will also be cherished by his grandchildren, Melissa Beach and Larissa Pringle (Zach), as well as by his great-grandchild, Brooklyn Callie Webb, and several nieces and nephews. Their lives stand as part of the lasting legacy he leaves behind, and he will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hall, and his mother, Mary Herring Hall.

A family-led memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at East Side Baptist Church, 310 Eastside Dr, Statesville, NC 28625. Pastor John Acker will officiate. Inurnment will be with the family.
