Wayne Douglas Moretz, age 69, born on December 18, 1956, in Catawba County, passed away on December 17, 2025, at the Greens of Hickory in Catawba County. He was a dedicated professional who worked as a fiber quality control technician at CommScope for 18 years, where he contributed his skills and expertise to the company and his colleagues.

Wayne had a profound love for his family and embraced life with enthusiasm. His joyful spirit was evident through his hobbies, which included playing golf, going white water rafting, and indulging in a good book. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he took on the significant responsibility of serving as a Chaplain's assistant, showcasing his commitment to aiding and supporting his fellow servicemen and women. He referred to himself as a “crypto” making, sending in and out messages as radio operator. In which then led to be the radio service technician, furthermore, showcasing his commitment.

He is survived by his son, Kent Howard Moretz, and his brother, Larry Moretz (Sylvia), along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, who will cherish the memories they hold dear of him.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Webster Moretz and Frances Hill Moretz, and two siblings, Wanda Punch Staley and Howard Clinton "Sonny" Moretz.

Visitation will take place on Friday, December 26, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm, followed by the funeral service at 3:30 pm, both at Alexander Funeral Service located at 193 NC-16 in Taylorsville, North Carolina. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Paul Schronce will officiate. Military rites will be provided.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001, or American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.

Wayne will be remembered not only for his achievements and service but also for the love and joy he brought to those around him. His legacy will continue to inspire and comfort his family and friends in the days to come.
