William Howard Carlton (90 years), of Taylorsville, unexpectedly passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Catawba Memorial Hospital after suffering a stroke. He was born on February 22, 1935, in Granite Falls, the son of the late Walter Nelson Carlton and Mary Magdalene Kilby Carlton.
Howard, as he was known by his friends, was a veteran of the Navy during the Korean War, he operated a wholesale floral supply business for 30 years, and he was an avid golfer who achieved holes-in-one on three occasions. Additionally, he was a private pilot, and he had traveled with his family extensively, including visiting all 50 states. He is remembered as having a very likeable, easy-going and gentle personality.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter Davie “Pete” Carlton, Thomas Ray Carlton, and Joe Taylor Carlton, and four sisters, Jeanette Wooten, Betty Clark, Paulene Martin, and Irene Watson.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Faye Caldwell Carlton, his son, Gregory Howard Carlton (and wife Razalle Denolan Carlton) of Conover, and one granddaughter, Angela Margaret Carlton, of London, England. Additional survivors include two brothers, James Nelson Carlton and John Bryant Carlton and one sister, Ruth Carlton Foster, and numerous nephews and nieces.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Alexander Funeral Service with a graveside service at 2:30 pm at Oxford Memorial Baptist Church. Rev. Neal Walker will officiate. Military Rites will be provided.
