William Eugene Connolly, a loving family man and devoted member of his community, passed away peacefully and went to his heavenly home on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Catawba Valley Medical Center in Catawba County, at the age of 76. Born on Saturday, September 20, 1947, in Iredell County, Eugene lived a life marked by dedication, compassion, and a deep love for his family.
Eugene proudly served his country in The United States Army, a testament of his commitment and bravery. His military service was a point of pride, exemplifying his character and unwavering sense of duty. Eugene prepared taxes for over 30 years and worked at Mitchell Gold for many years.
Eugene was an individual who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed gardening and spending time outdoors, embracing nature in a way that spoke to his nurturing spirit. His passions were a reflection of a man who appreciated the beauty of life and sought to create warmth and comfort wherever he went.
Throughout his life, he cherished the moments spent with his loved ones. Eugene is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary Connolly, who stood by his side through all of life’s journeys. He will be deeply missed by his daughters, Jennifer Deal and Hanna Eckard, who carry on his legacy of love and resilience. As a grandfather, Eugene delighted in the company of his grandchildren: Lauren Deal, Lyndsey Deal, Carson Eckard, and Jenna Eckard, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. He is also remembered by his sisters, Marie Moore of Statesville, Carolyn Bowman, and Sandra Daniels, both of Taylorsville.
Eugene is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Foda Connolly, sister Evelyn Johnson, and brothers Harvey Connolly and Jerry Connolly. Their memories live on in the stories shared by Eugene’s family and friends, a testament to the enduring impact he made on their lives.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Stony Point Baptist Church Cemetery at 3:00 pm. Pastor Rick Norman will officiate. Military Rites will be provided by DAV Ch. 84.
