William Richard "Bill" Glad

July 8, 1951 — November 15, 2025

William Richard “Bill” Glad, age 74, victoriously entered the Church Triumphant on Saturday November 15, 2025, at the Taylorsville House in Taylorsville, NC, following a long battle with dementia.

He was born July 8, 1951, to William Matthew Glad and Irene Randich Glad of Joliet, Illinois. Bill was a proud graduate of Joliet West High School Class of 1969, Joliet, Illinois and North Carolina State University, Class of 1973, Raleigh, NC.

Bill was a devoted and active member of the Taylorsville Community. A member of Taylorsville First United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men, he served in multiple mission efforts including Volunteer in Mission teams to Puerto Rico. He also faithfully served as the church sexton for several years. His civic engagements included membership in the ACHS Athletic Boosters Club, Taylorsville Rotary Club, Crime Stoppers, and Jaycees, where he served as club president.

Bill served as Recreation Director of Alexander County for 22 years. His joy was introducing youth to organized sports and supporting all age groups in fun and healthy leisure activities. Under his leadership, both youth and adult sports leagues and facilities flourished throughout the county. His impact will be permanently honored with his upcoming induction into the Alexander County Sports Hall of Fame in 2025.

A lifelong athlete and fan of NC State, Bill was a proud member of the North Carolina State University 1973 ACC championship baseball team. He was awarded the Vic Sorrell Award that same year for his outstanding contributions to NCSU baseball. He remained a passionate Wolfpack supporter all his life.

Bill’s family was the love of his life. He married Brenda Gail Dooley of Haddonfield, NJ while attending NCSU, and they were blessed with 52 years of marriage. Bill was endlessly proud of his children and grandchildren and loved watching them grow into amazing humans. He approached life with humor, humility, and a playful spirit, always encouraging fun, kindness and generosity. He never took himself or life too seriously and taught us all the value of a playful nature. He loved watching and playing sports. He was an avid card player and enjoyed an occasional game of golf. Bill was a loving and supportive father and husband. He had a caring and generous nature and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.

Along with his wife, Bill leaves behind his children, Ben Glad, Nathan Glad (Patricia), Hillary Boyce (Jason Knapp), his grandchildren, Kenneth Boyce (Kaylie Moore) and Ellie Glad, his brothers and sisters, Daniel Glad (Jeanne), Denise Griffith (Bruce), David Glad (Elaine), Dorene Lynch (John), along with a number of nieces, nephews, and special friends, especially his friend and caregiver Angie Herb.

A memorial service to celebrate Bills life will take place Thursday November 20, 2025, at 3:00 pm at First United Methodist Church. After the service the family invites you to join them in the fellowship hall for a reception. Pastor Joel Simpson will officiate.

Bill loved life and was loved by many.

He will be missed by all who knew him. His family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the Taylorsville House and Hospice of Iredell County for their compassionate support during his final days.
